Mulled wine

Ingredients
  • Wine (75cl)
  • 80g of brown sugar
  • 4 cardamom pods
  • 6 cloves
  • 2 star anise
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • A pinch of nutmeg
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 orange
PREPARATION

Step 1

  • In a pot, place the spices along with the lemon and orange peels and the brown sugar over low heat. Let the spices and peels release their aromas while the sugar gradually caramelizes.
  • To prevent sticking, add a splash of wine—just enough to cover the sugar.
  • Once the sugar has dissolved, add the remaining wine and cook over low heat for half an hour. It’s important that the wine does not reach a boil. Check the sweetness and adjust if needed, then remove from heat and let it rest.
  • To store, strain it and keep it in a bottle. Serve alongside cookies or sweets.
