French toast

Ingredients
  • Half a loaf of day-old bread
  • 300 ml of whole milk
  • Vanilla
  • Cinnamon sticks and ground cinnamon
  • Sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • Sunflower oil
PREPARATION

Step 1

  • To flavor the milk, we scrape out the seeds from a vanilla pod, add a cinnamon stick, and simmer it over low heat.
  • Once it comes to a boil, turn off the heat and let it steep for 30 minutes to allow the milk to cool down.
  • We cut the bread slices diagonally to make them longer and cover them with the strained milk to avoid any impurities. We leave them for a few minutes so the French toast absorbs all the milk.

Step 2

  • We beat an egg, dip the French toast slices in it, and fry them in hot oil (but not too hot) until golden brown. The French toast will expand during the frying process. We use sunflower oil so it doesn't overpower the vanilla flavor.
  • We drained it on absorbent paper
  • We sprinkle with sugar and ground cinnamon
